SK Energy's oil giveaway event is drawing huge popularity among young drivers, with more than 130,000 applying for the event giving 1,000 people fuel cards worth 200,000 won, the refiner said Tuesday.

According to SK Energy, 137,000 people have applied for the event, dubbed SK Oilro Pass, as of Tuesday morning. On June 6, the event was ranked the No. 1 search keyword on Korea's leading web portal Naver.

The event, launched on June 5, is a giveaway campaign in which SK Energy gives out fuel cards to 1,000 people aged between 25 and 35. With a card, the event's winners can purchase gasoline, diesel or other types of fuel at 3,600 SK Energy gas stations across the country for five days.

At its website, sk-oilro.co.kr, customers can apply in two rounds ― June 5 to June 14 and June 14 to June 25 ― and each round's 500 winners will be announced on June 20 and July 1. The card will be available for use for five consecutive days between July 15 and Aug. 31.

The amount in the fuel card is enough to cover round trips between Seoul and Busan, around 400 kilometers.

An SK Energy official said the event is drawing popularity among young people who are entering summer vacation season. Also, they are sharing the event on Instagram, helping the event go viral faster.

"Young people are showing greater responses than expected, making SK Energy officials who prepared this event happy too," an SK Energy official said. "SK Energy will continue its efforts to make its gas stations places that spread happiness and energy to the younger generation."
